Someone asked me this question in April
” Mr kelvin which is better between Full time and Part time?”
That is why I want you to know the difference between par time and full-time,so you can know which to run that favours you more.
FULL TIME
Fees is smaller
Time is shorter, you finished on time
More attention/dedication from lecturers
Accommodation possibilities
Will Finish syllabus before exams
More organised and committed
Usually gets closer to lecturers who will help them for other business
Do part time business along side
Usually do better academically
finished project faster and so graduate faster
low rate of abandonment of program unlike part time
very discipline
Most full time don’t require experience except some very few courses
Has opportunity to be recommended for awards and best student awards at end of each session
has wider choice of courses
Still enjoy school like undergraduates
Has time for personal and social life
Can be nominated for scholarships, nominations for jobs from companies requesting for department to send their top students for employment
enjoys campus life and entertainment
No issue of late night traffic and stress
Can be recommended easily for openings for assistance lecturers positions by a Prof
Less competitive compared to PT
PART-TIME
Better usage of time, since no time
Can pay instalmental fees
Has more respect from lecturers as they are believed to be responsible
Has more money to play around with
Admission cut off marks is very low compared to Full time, so easy to get admission
Have time to work and make money without losing their jobs
Can enjoy both worlds of comfort and training
lectures can be weekends or evenings
course work per semesters is lower compare to full time
Has flexibility to repeat a carry over course with year one students of that course
There is flexibility of lecture time
Lecturers are more friendly with Part time students
Behaves more mature
The courses are more tailor to workplace situations, very practical
lectures are engaging as 80% of students are working class, so involves practical and engaging sessions
sometimes consultants are engaged to teach these set of students
Have enough time for project
Really like Adult education
Education is done with comfort and ease
Admits lots of students during admission
working experience attracts marks during admission
Relax project defence
DISADVANTAGE OF PAR-TIME
very expensive compared to FT (doubled)
stressful combining both work and study
you write same exams with FT
You are expected to finish lectures same time
NO access to accommodation legally
Usually exploited by lecturers assumed you are working
Do very poorly in test, exams compared to their FT colleagues
Are viewed by lecturers as not serious
Easy to exploit
Outsource almost every thing to others – Assignments, tests, copying notes, attendance etc
Spend more money to cover for Absenteeism
Always looking confuse in class and majority misses lectures
Possibilities of missing Test & Assignments
Possibilities of dropping out very high
High rate of carry overs or failures in Exams
Choice of courses is very narrow
Takes too long to complete the program
No time for personal and social life
Miss out from awards, scholarships, nominations for jobs from companies
Miss all campus fun
Has a lot of applicants, so highly competitive
DISADVANTAGE OF FULL-TIME
Student argues a lots and waste time
Childish behaviour is rampant
More is expected from these students as they are being trained as Research personnel, analyst and academics
There is a lot of presentation and research work
Project starts as early as first semesters
Mostly broke
No instalmental payment allowed
Carry over courses may not be easy to repeat without paying for full tuition the following year
Treated like undergraduates and no respect at all from lecturers
Admission cut off marks is usually very high compared to PT, so admission is very difficult
May have to stop working to come to class, as lectures is usually daily and in the mornings
Very very very stressful for working students
Admit fewer students during admission
Topics and lectures very boring and non industry related
Project defence is very strenuous.
SIMILARITIES BETWEEN FULL-TIME & PAR-TIME
Semester exams are same
certificate is the same
Convocation is not the same
Registration requirement is the same
Sales of form is same price
Entrance exams is the same
Both can be elected in student association body
Both stand a chance to do very well academically
Both can graduate on time or stay extra year (depends on the student)
Its less stressful for non working students than working class
Its more easier and fun for working class
The experience is very exciting and mind changing for graduates from other school
The opportunities presented every day is huge, as you get to meet the high and mighty of the society in class and in campus.
so hurry and make the wise decision now.
