Department of Anatomy
‘The objective of postgraduate education in the Department of Anatomy is to give candidates a basic understanding of the various fields of Anatomy and to prepare the candidates fi r a career in Research and Teaching in the Anatomical Sciences in a medical school or similar academic environment.
The Department offers courses leading to the following higher degrees:
* Master of Science (M.Sc.)
* Master of Philosophy M.Phii.)
* Doctor of Philosophy (Phil)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
MASTER OF SCIENCE
(M.Sc.) IN ANATOMY
(i) An applicant for admission to this programme must he a post-registration Medical or Dental graduate of this or any other University recognized by Senate or a graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Anatomy or equivalent from this or any other University recognized by Senate.
- ii) Candidates may be required to undergo a selection process.
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (M.Phil.) IN ANATOMY
An applicant for admission to
Master of Philosophy degree
must be:
(i) Post-registration Medical or Dental graduate or graduate
with Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division in Anatomy
(ii) An M.Sc. or equivalent in Anatomy.
(iii) Candidates for M.Phil. Programme may he required to undergo a selection process.
Ph.D. IN ANATOMY
An applicant for admission to the Doctor of Philosophv degree must have:
(i) The Master of Philosophy degree or equivalent in Anatomy
(ii) Candidates for PhI). programme may he required to satisfr the Department in an interview or examination or both
GENERAL COURSE CONTENT
* M.Sc. in Anatomy: Advanced Gross Anatomy
Developmental Anatomy, Neuroanatomy Advanced Microscope Anatomy,
Stereolog3 Research Project and Medical Statistics.
* M.Phil. in Anatomy: Special Topics, Research
* Ph.D. in Anatomy: Research Seminars III, IV and Thesis.
NATURE OF ASSESSMENT
M.Sc: course work; M.Phil, Ph.D Course work and thesis.
DURATION
M.Sc. – 2 academic semesters
M.Phil. – 4 academic semesters
Ph. D. – 6 academic semesters
