POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGD) PROGRAMMES ENTRY REQUIREMENT A PGD programme in Cell Biology and Genetics shall last for twelve calendar months, and it is open to candidates with any of the following:
(1) Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree not lower than a third class in any area of Biological, Medical, Biomedical or Paramedical Sciences and currently engaged in activities that require Forensic Biology or Genetic Counseling.
(ii) Any other interested candidate with a Bachelor’s degree not less than a third class in any area of Education including Education (Biology), Arts, or Social Sciences who require Forensic Biology or Genetic Counseling in their endeavours.
(iii) Any candidate as stipulated in (ii) above, who wish to obtain a Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree in any area in the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics may also apply. however, such candidates are required to score a minimum of CGPA of 3.00 in the PGD programme.
(iv) Notwithstanding the possession of i, ii or iii above, a candidate may be required to satisfy a selection process in the form of written or/and oral interview or examination.
GENERAL COURSE CONTENT
* General knowledge of genetic principles in areas of chromosomal studies, extrachromosomal inheritance as applied to plants and animals.
* Current studies in gene expression and molecular biology involving Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
* Specific and applicable knowledge in areas of Molecular Phylogeny and Biosystematics.
˟Information on general Environmental Biology, techniques involving Bioremediation, Toxicology and Ecological Genetics.
* Techniques in plant and animal breeding using qualitative and quantitative genetic analytical methods.
NATURE OF ASSESSMENT
Course work/ Seminar/Research Project.

The minimum duration of the course is one (1) academic year

MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.Sc) PROGRAMME
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
The M.Sc. programme in Cell biology and Genetics shall last for twelve calendar months, and it is open to candidates with any of the following:
(i) a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of this or any other approved university in Biology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Zoology, and marine Biology with at least 3rd class.
(ii) Candidates with a degree in medicine, Nursing and other relate area in Medical, Biomedical or paramedical Sciences can also apply.
(iii) a PGD degree of the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
(iv) Notwithstanding the possession of i, ii or iii above, a candidate may be required to satisfy a satisfy a selection process in the form of written or/ and interview or examination.

* General knowledge of genetic principles in areas of chromosomal studies, extrachromosomal inheritance as applied to plants and animals.

The M. Phil. Programme is open to candidates with any of the following:
(i) at least a Second Class (Upper Division) Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, of this or any approved University; in Biology, Botany, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Zoology or other related areas such as Medical, Biomedical or Paramedical Sciences.
(ii) a Master of Science by course work of this or any approved university in the area mentioned in (i) above with a CGPA of not less than 3.50.
(iii) Notwithstanding the possession of (i) or (ii) above, a candidate may be required to satisfy a selection process in the form of written or/and oral interview or examination.
GENERAL COURSE CONTENT
* General knowledge of genetic principles in areas of chromosomal studies, exrrachromosomal inheritance as applied to plants and animals.
* Current studies in gene expression and molecular biology involving Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

(i) a Master of Science by course work of this or any approved University, in Biology; Botany,

Zoology or other related areas such as Medical, Biomedical and Paramedical Sciences with a CGPA of not less than 4.00.
(ii) A Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.) or M. Sc. by research of this or any other approved university in the areas mentioned in (i) above.
(III) Notwithstanding the possession of i or ii above, a candidate may be required to satisfy a selection process in the form of written / oral interview or examination.
