The programme is designed to provide theoretical and analytical backgrounds to enable its graduates function effectively in teaching and research careers in finance and related fields In institutions of higher learning. It is also intended to produce finance specialists for banks, other financial institutions as well as finance divisions of private and public companies.

The Department of Finance offer the following Postgraduate degree programmes:
* PGD in Finance
* M.Sc./MYhil./Ph.D. in Finance
* Master of Development Finance (MDF)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS POSTGRADUATE
DIPLOMA IN FINANCE (PGD)
* B.Sc. Accounting, Business Administration, Industrial Relation & Personnel Management, Actuarial Science and Economics.
* Candidate with Professional Certificates in — Accounting, Banking, Marketing, Insurance and Stock Broking will be an added advantage.

MASTER OF SCIENCE (M.Sc) IN FINANCE (FULL-TIME & PART-TIME)
First degree in Finance, Accounting , Economics, Business Studies or related disciplines from recognized universities.

MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY AND DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (M.Phil./Ph.D.) IN FINANCE
M.Phil: Candidate with M.Sc in Finance with GPA 3.5 and above Ph.D.: Candidate with M.Sc . in Finance with GPA 4.00 and above

DURATION
PGD: Two(2) academic semester
M.Sc.: Two (2) academic semester (Full-time), three (3) academic semester (Part-time)
M.Phil. Four (4) Academic Semesters
Ph.D.: Six (6) Academic Semesters.

MASTERS OF DEVELOPMENT FINANCE (MDF) (PART-TIME)
This progranmme which is an inter-university programme in development finance, deals with issues associated with the finance of public and private sectors in developing and transitional economics. The philosophy of the development Finance Programme is to ensure that Africa and other emerging economies produce enough development finance experts to meet it growing development needs. development finance, as a professional discipline, is widely practiced in major development ace institutions including major development banks, World Bank Group, IMP, the UN organs, regional other country-specific development finance institutions, public and private sector institutions and non- financial organizations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
* Admission is open to only holders of Bachelors degree with honours in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration, Management or other related degrees of the University of Lagos or any other recognized universities by the Senate of the University of Lagos.

  • Candidates with relevant professional qualifications approved by Senate may also apply.
  • Holders of MBA degree (Finance specialization) with a first degree honours of this university or any other recognized university by the senate of this university
  • Honours degree in other nonfinancial related discipline with a PGD degree in finance of this university.
  • All candidates may be required to undergo a selection process

On completion of the programme candidates would have career opportunities in public finance, banks and non-bank, financial institutions, international finance organization, aid agencies, academic and research institutions as well as nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). As a professional discipline, Development Finance is widely practiced in major Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) including the World Bank Group (IBRD, IDA, IFC), the IMF, the UN agencies, regional/country specific DFIs like ADB, BOl as well as major International Foundations.
