DEPARTMENT OF Arts and Social Sciences Education
The Department of Arts and Social Sciences offers three programmes leading to the award of M.Ed., M.Phil. and Ph.D). degrees in the following subject areas: English Language, literature-in–English, French, lgbo, Yoruba, Geography, Economics, Social Studies, Business Education, Government, History, Population Education, Religious Education (Christian and Islamic),
Curriculum Theory, Music and Early Childhood Education
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
a) M.Ed. in the various teaching subjects
* Holders of an honours degree in Education in relevant curriculum subject area from any recognized university;
* Holders of an honours degree in various disciplines other than education but should possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Education or an NCR
- b) Phil.
* A Bachelors degree or equivalent in relevant curriculum subject area from any recognized university; with a minimum of Second Class Upper
* A Master’s degree in the relevant area with a minimum GPA of 3.50.
* Candidates are required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.
- c) Ph.D.
* A M.Phil. or equivalent in relevant Curriculum subject area.
* A Master’s degree in the relevant area with a minimum GPA of 4.0
* Candidates are required to satisfy the Department in a selection process.
GENERAL COURSE CONTENT
* M.Phil.: General Education Courses
* Specialist Courses in au the subject areas listed under course description for MEd., M.Phil. and Ph.D. courses.
NATURE OF ASSESSMENT
M.Ed.: Coursework of 30 units. Project submission M.Phil.: Course work of 36 units if the candidate does not possess an M.Ed. Dissertation submission
Ph.D.: Course work of 6 units if the candidate has an M.Phil. degree.
* Course work of 12 units if candidate has MEd. degree.
* Satisfy Department in progress report seminars on his research.
* Submit dissertation.
* A Masters degree in the relevant curriculum subject areas with a GPA of 4.0 and above
DURATION
MEd.: One year programme of two semesters.
M.Phil.: Four semesters.
Ph.D.: Minimum of six semesters.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of MEd., M.PhIL, Ph.D. in all the subject areas listed can work in secondary schools, tertiary institutions, curriculum development agencies and other related institutions.
